Mindfulness

Jun 30, 2017

High intensity workouts aren’t going anywhere but an obsession with them has led to over-training and injuries, piloting a new mindful mentality of slowing down and really honing in and listening to our bodies needs. In 2017 we’re really seeing a growing trend on focusing on good habits, recovery classes, and self-care to offset the physical toll they’ve put themselves through. Brands like Rove, a travel-friendly foam roller is a recovery product that’s coming to the market. Whoop, a fitness tracker that measures your sleep and recovery (alongside the correlation to physiology and performance), Headspace, an app that has themed sessions on everything from stress to sleep, not to mention we now have “Mindfulness” and “Sleep” categories in the Health Data section on our iPhone’s that suggest apps to use to help calm the mind. Even sleep is set to be a fitness trend within the umbrella of mindfulness. With the rise off all these boutique studios, lunchtime classes and 24-hour gyms, our fitness schedules are wearing the vast majority of us out. Most of us feel fatigued or drained but unsure of what to do or if it’s a normal feeling. With all that being said, there’s already been a huge surge in meditation, mindfulness, and nighttime yoga classes that focus on strengthening the core and quieting the mind in a candlelit room. The purpose is to aid in sleep, relax and help unwind before heading to bed. With the intensification of technology it’s almost impossible to escape and unplug from our days and the stressors we face. I mean, how can you with our emails, texts, and news sources constantly buzzing and updating us? As more people take the time to recover and pull back from our busy schedules and make time for some wholehearted self-care (baths and home skincare included), hopefully the trend will become a habit that’s ingrained into daily routines.
